A dedicated chamber musician, Rochelle Nguyen has stunned audiences with chamber music performances in concert halls and homes throughout the United States and in France. She performs regularly with other members of Festival Rolland, as well as with Altea Piano Quartet, and was a member of the Oceana String Quartet, winner of both the Washington State and Northwest Regional MTNA Chamber Music competitions in 2013.
Rochelle is also an active orchestral musician in the California bay area. She is Associate Concertmaster of the Opera San Jose orchestra, Assistant Principal Second of the San Jose Chamber Orchestra and Santa Cruz Symphony, and a section violinist in Symphony Silicon Valley (formerly San Jose Symphony). She also frequently performs as an extra with the San Francisco Ballet orchestra. She has performed in Davies Symphony Hall, the War Memorial Opera House, Herbst Theater, Bing Concert Hall, the California Theater, Benaroya Hall, the Berlin Philharmonie, and the Vienna Musikverein.
Rochelle studied violin with Daniel Kobialka, Robin Sharp, Ron Patterson, and Diane Nicholeris. She has worked with Pamela Frank, Joseph Silverstein, Melia Watras, Atar Arad, Paul Kantor, and members of the Corigliano, St. Lawrence, Emerson, Cypress, Concord, and American string quartets, as well as members of the San Francisco Symphony, Seattle Symphony, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
Rochelle has performed at several music festivals, including Festival Rolland, Midsummer Mozart, Eastern Sierra Symphony Summer Festival, West Edge Opera, Music@Menlo, St. Lawrence String Quartet Chamber Music Seminar, and Tanglewood Music Center, where she worked with renowned conductors such as James Levine, Michael Tilson Thomas, Kurt Masur, Herbert Blomstedt, Leonard Slatkin, Robert Spano, and Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos.
Rochelle received her bachelor’s degree from Stanford University, and her master’s degree from the University of Washington in Seattle. When Rochelle isn’t playing the violin, she enjoys spending time with her rescue dogs Anny and Noodle.
